Made to Measure and Bespoke Tailoring: Which is Right for You?
By Rachel C. Ristau
Fulford Bespoke provides the choice between two tailoring services: Made to Measure and Bespoke. Garments made through either process are customized to your body measurements and design preferences, although there are distinct differences between the two options.
Made to Measure
Creating a garment through the Made to Measure process begins with an existing pattern that is adapted to your specific body measurements. A Made to Measure clothing pattern is based on the standard clothing size closest to your fit. This pattern is then modified to your specific body measurements, creating a significantly more precise fit compared to a garment purchased from a retail outlet.
Apart from the fit of the garment, the overall material and appearance is also customized to your liking. A selection of fabrics and linings are available to choose from, ensuring comfort and style. Furthermore, details such as lapel style, pocket style, and button placement are yours to decide.
A Made to Measure garment is a more affordable option that requires less production time compared to Bespoke. A Made to Measure garment typically only requires 1-2 fittings, and can be completed over the span of approximately 6 weeks, giving it the lower price tag of the two options. While Made to Measure produces customized garments tailored to fit you, the process is not as in-depth as Bespoke.
Bespoke
A Bespoke garment is truly unique to you. There is no existing pattern to begin a Bespoke garment. Instead, detailed measurements of your body are taken and a clothing pattern unique to you is created.
A Bespoke garment is ideal for the creative individual, as imaginative style ideas can be brought to life. Fabric choices and details such as lapels, pockets, and buttons are customizable with Bespoke and Made to Measure garments; however, Bespoke garments can be designed to incorporate asymmetrical styles, inventive cuts, and eccentric detail placements as well. Bespoke garments are also ideal for individuals with unique body types or features that standard clothing sizes and shapes struggle to accommodate.
Bespoke offers a more precise fit and is entirely customizable compared to Made to Measure. As it is a thorough process to ensure the best possible fit and design, a Bespoke garment takes 3-4 fittings on average, extending the production time to approximately 12 weeks.
Whether you opt for Made to Measure or Bespoke, Fulford Bespoke creates special garments for every special event. Fulford Bespoke is proud to craft one-of-a kind garments, designed with you and for you. Made by hand. Made to last.
